I have been in Mallorca four times, and each time has been different.
Even though the island is mostly famous for its nightlife, Mallorca offers much more than that. I was lucky enough to discover its beauties thanks to some very special local guides. From its cristal clear waters, to its lovely small towns hidden in the inland, Mallorca is the go to destination for those who need to relax without giving up some sightseeing, great food and sangria.
10 things you can do in Mallorca
Nr. 1
Palma De Mallorca

Palma ist the capital of Mallorca, which is why there is so much to do and see. The cathedral is worth a visit, as well as the Castell de Bellver, which offers an amazing view on the port. Get lost in the small alleys of the capital to find tiny shops selling espadrilles or pretty restaurants where you can enjoy a glass of sangria with some typical tapas. Hidden in the streets of Palma you will also find the Mercat de l’Olivar, a paradise for whoever (like me) loves fresh fish. Tip: don’t miss Santa Catalina. It is an old fisherman’s village that has now become an hotspot thanks to its Mediterranean flair and cozy bars and cafes.
Nr. 2
Deià
Deià is One of the most picturesque villages of the island. It is located on the top of the Tramuntana mountain. This town will enchant you with its cobbled streets and sunny terraces. Enjoy a coffee in one of its cafes and leave the main street to discover its hidden narrow alleys. Tip: beneath the village, wedged between steep rocks, you will find Cala Deià. It is a small cove where you can freshen up after visiting the town.
Nr. 3
Valdemossa

Not far from Deià, also hidden in the Tramuntana Mountains. Valdemossa is famous for its rich cultural heritage and, as Deià, its cobbled alleys and pretty buildings. Among Mallorcans the town is famous for being the birthplace of Santa Catalina, the patron saint of Mallorca. Tip: enter one of the many cafes in the town to try a “coca de patata”. Coca de patata is a typical Mallorcan sweet made with boiled potatoes in its dough and covered in sugar.
Nr. 4
Cala Bella Dona

You can’t go to Mallorca without enjoying its hot sun and clear waters. This cala is a small cove with both rocks and sand. You can it reach though a hidden access in Calviá. Here you can swim in the crystal clear waters of the island and enjoy a relaxing day under the sun.
Nr. 5
Cala Delta

Another stunning cala is Cala Delta, a rocky beach close to Palma. It is perfect for water explorers and a bit less for those who enjoy laying in the sun more than swimming. Indeed, its rocks are pretty unconfortable to lay on. Tip: as the sun goes down the rocks turn reddish/golden. For this reason you might want to visit the Cala in the late afternoon.
Nr. 6
Port Vells

Last but not least, the small beach of Portals Vells. It is peaceful and calm due to its hidden position and small size. Here you can find some umbrellas and chairs to rent or, like in the other calas, bring your own.
Nr. 7
Sa Foradada

If you are a fan of sunsets like I am, you don’t want to miss this place. Sa Foradada takes its name from a rock standing in the sea with a hole (“forat” means hole in Catalan), behind which the sun goes down. You can reach the bottom of the rock by foot or just enjoy the sunset from the bar above it. The bar, the Chillout, is perfect for a glass of Sangria and good friends. Tip: don’t get there too late. The bar gets crowded with sunset lovers, and you might want to get a good spot to enjoy the golden hour at its best.
Nr. 8
Paella

Honestly, I have had the best paellas ever in Mallorca. Probably because I had great local guides, but also because the fish is fresh. And of course, eating a paella on a terrace with a sea view makes it so much better. Las Olas (translated “The Waves”) is located in Santa Ponça. It has a lovely little terrace directly on the sea and its paella (I still dream of it) will not disappoint you. If you are staying on the other side of the island, you can enjoy a great paella at Can Gavella. The restaurant is located directly on the beach and offers the perfect atmosphere thanks to its white and blue furniture. Tip: add some aioli to your paella to make it even better.

Nr. 9
Portal Nous

If you are looking for a place to stay, Portal Nous is great thanks to its location close to Palma, its small cala and bigger beach. Here in Portal Nous everyone will find what they need: good restaurants, a hidden cala, a bigger beach, a lively beach bar (Roxy), pedal boats for rent and good connections to Palma and the biggest cities in the south of the island. Tip: not easy to find, Villa Ampurdan is located 2 minutes walk from the beach and is the perfect starting point for your Mallorcan vacation. The rooms are big, breakfast is included in the stay and its small garden is the perfect place to relax at night with their amazing sangria.
Nr. 10
Magaluf

I wasn’t sure whether to include Magaluf in this guide, but I guess when this will be over we will all feel like dancing all night. Magaluf is the party hotspot of the island and it attracts millions of people each year. Not everyone is a fan of this place, but if you check in advance you might find worldwide DJs playing during your stay, such as David Guetta or Steve Aoki. Tip: this is not a tip, it is more like a warning: Try to survive while being assaulted by all the promoters in the street and go there with the right attitude, you might end up having fun.
