These sport activities in Munich will give you the right motivation to survive your training sessions during the hottest season of the year.
eisbachfit
They are Munich’s strongest outdoor community, organizing high-intensity training sessions in the fresh air. No matter the weather, their full-body workouts are always 100% energy. They train either at the parking lot P1 behind the Haus der Kunst or at HVB-Club. Training take place during the week and on Sundays. Their training methods include circuit training, battle rope exercises, kettlebell workouts and functional training.

Bloomergym
They offer a wide range of small group fitness sessions, such as HIIT, Functional Training, BLACKROLL® Active Recovery, and Yoga. These take place indoors at Oefelestraße, outdoors at Olympiapark, and online. In addition to traditional training methods, from May to October, you can practice yoga, core training, and mobility exercises on SUP boards at the Olympic lake (in cooperation with SAYAQ Adventures).

River surfing
If you see people riding their bike through the city with a surfboard under their arms, you know where they come from. Munich is home to river surfing all-year round, with two main surf spots located in the heart of the city. The main Eisbach Wave (E1), is larger and more powerful, therefore suitable for experienced surfers. The smaller Eisbach Wave (E2) is a better option for beginners and intermediate surfers.
If you’re interested in trying river surfing in Munich, here are a few tips. 1. Consider renting a surfboard at places like Santo Loco or on online platforms like eBay Kleinanzeigen. 2. Respect the surfing etiquette and don’t hesitate to introduce yourself to fellow surfers and ask for tips, observe the lineup and take turns when catching waves. 3. Before jumping into the river, it’s recommended to get familiar with the board feeling, so consider taking surf lessons at places like JochenSchweizer Arena or having a surf week at the sea to gain more confidence.


Wakeboarding
Wakeboarding near Munich is an exciting water sport experience. Here are some wakeboarding options and events to consider. Wasserskipark Aschheim (Aschheim) is a full-size cable park with various UNIT Parktech features. They also have a small cable system 2.0 for beginner group sessions. Note that the park can open only when water levels are suitable, so check their website for updates. Chill and Wake (Friedberg) offers a full-size lift with kickers, boxes, and rails for wakeboarding and waterskiing. Turncable (Thannhausen) has three cables and over 20 obstacles for wakeboarders of all skill levels, with coaching options also available.

Hiking in the Bavarian Alps
If you’re up for a challenging activity in nature, head to the nearby Bavarian Alps for hiking adventures. Numerous trails cater to different fitness levels, offering breathtaking views, fresh mountain air, and a chance to escape the city heat. Swimming
Swimming in one of the Munich’s swimming pools is another fantastic sport activity to beat the summer heat. Here are a few popular swimming pools in Munich.
Olympiaschwimmhalle in the iconic Olympiapark features an Olympic-sized indoor pool with 50-meter lanes, allowing for competitive swimming and training. The facility also includes diving platforms, ranging from 1-meter to 10-meters in height. Müller’sches Volksbad is a true gem in Munich, with its stunning architecture and historic ambiance. The pool features both indoor and outdoor sections, along with various saunas and wellness facilities. Dantebad, located in the northern part of the city, is a family-friendly swimming pool with a large outdoor area. It’s an ideal spot for both recreational swimming and aquatic fun. Cosimawellenbad near Arabellapark has both an indoor and a warm water outdoor area. It features a unique wave pool and is therefore a popular attraction for families. However, it is also suitable for serious workouts.


Stand-up Paddleboarding on the lakes
Munich is surrounded by stunning lakes such as Lake Starnberg, Ammersee, and Chiemsee, which provide a great opportunity for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). Rent a paddleboard, explore the crystal-clear waters, and soak up the sun while engaging your core muscles and enjoying a low-impact workout. Padel
Padel is a popular racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, played on a smaller court enclosed by walls. Munich has several padel clubs where you can play and enjoy the sport. These include Padelclub München (located in the Laim district), offering multiple padel courts for both casual play and leagues and tournaments, and Sportinsel Taufkirchen, with a Padel Club within its facilities. Otherwise you can find a padel and tennis club in Starnberg as well.
It’s recommended to make court reservations in advance. If you’re new to padel or want to improve your skills, consider taking lessons with one qualified instructor, who can provide guidance and help you refine your technique.

Running in the English Garden
The English Garden offers numerous trails and paths for runners of all levels. With its beautiful landscapes, shaded areas, and serene atmosphere, it’s the perfect place to go for a run and escape the heat while enjoying nature.


Cycling along Isar River
Munich is known for its excellent cycling infrastructure, and one of the best routes is along the Isar River. You can pedal along the riverbanks, surrounded by lush greenery, and enjoy the refreshing breeze. The route offers both paved paths and off-road trails, catering to different skill levels.
